Romy Lee is a multidisciplinary Irish artist based between Cork, Ireland and Stuttgart, Germany. She is currently studying Fine Art at the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart. Romy concentrates on drawing, painting and site-specific installation.
Romy Lee‘s work deals with questions of origin, migration, linguistic and cultural identity. How are we shaped by collective or individual memory? How does multilingualism change our position in the world that surrounds us and our position to others in this world? How does it change our self-perception, way of thinking and identity? What connects us with others and how do we overcome parallels of similarities and unfamiliarity. The way in which we move in our modern society, from a multitude of perspectives and why we move the way in which we do.
Romy uses elements of play to convey a sense of naïve sincerity. This is also why she often brings 3D elements into her work. Working with found objects and giving them narrative adding to this playful element, while allowing viewers to have a direct connection to her work through these familiar found objects. As well as this she creates installations to allow her viewers to be immersed into her worlds.
Romy has exhibited in various locations across Ireland and Germany and has been long listed for Season 4 of the Gallery, London, UK.
